Welcome to the last entry of this blog. No I am not quitting, I am just moving. I just installed a new blog software framework. I was starting to dislike the way to interact and I wanted something that contained more out of the box. I am in the middle of moving to wordpress software. There is a very good reason to do this. I had found a great tool on the mac called MarsEdit. And again this could not be used with serendipity. I hope I did make a good choice. Since there is a lot of information in the old blog, I did not take this blog offline. It will stay to exist, but I will not make changes there anymore.

Google code

Last week I started experimenting with google code. What a simple thing it is. Nice to have a svn repository and have some very small project toolset as well. There is an issue list, you can add developers, have some mailings. No to much, but it is working. From now on you can find my sample code in this location:

Firefox plugins

The new version of firefox is released, time to get a look at the plugins I have installed and maybe some nice ones to (re)discover.

delicious - If you do not know del.icio.us for storing your bookmarks yet, then you do not need this plugin. I suggest you do have a look at del.icio.us and start using it, since it is very easy and handy if you use a lot of computers.
linkedin - Handy if you are using Linkedin for managing your contacts and expending your network.
paypall - Using paypall made easy.
sage - This is an easy to use rss reader for firefox, I like it better than using thunderbird since firefox is available on almost all the pc's I use. Still figuring out if this is the best.
adsense - This plugin is handy if you have an adsense account. Show your earnings from the status bar.
pdf download - lets you choose whether to download or open the pdf file.
ie view - Open the current page in internet explorer if you really have to.

These are all fine plugins that I use on a daily basis. If you don't agree, have another or better one, let me know via the comments.

Google analytics

A few weeks a go I started using google analytics. What a cool tool. You can gather a lot of information about the usage of your website. Some very nice graphs are produced as well. Have a look at their website for more info. At the moment you cannot start using your own statistics. There were to many request, so they had to stop new requests from coming in for a while. Some of the statistics for my website.

Browsers used : Firefox 57%, ie 37%, Safari 4%, Opera 4%
Platform : windows 85%, linux 12%
Screen resolution : 1024x768 34%, 1280x1024 33%

Other interesting information is that most people find my website via google, some of the words most people search for are :
acegi
spring
ajax

Other good referers are the forum of springframework and the websites of the products that I use:
Serendipity, Pmwiki, and MiniBB

Most of you reed the blog, I guess this information changes the most. Reminds me that I want to start using the wiki for more thorough articles. But time is also limited for me . If people drill down into a blog subject, most of the time it is the item about ajaxtags. Other articles you are interested in are : hsql and java and rss and rome with spring

Interesting stuff, Google analytics, next time I will show you some of the graphs.

Google portal and google talk

The last few weeks google has provided us with a number of new services. A few of them are very interesting. I have been using google mail for a while. Now I use the portal as well.

Nice about the portal is that you can add a number of rss feeds. Of course the drag and drop of the different items, mail integration, and ofcourse the google search integration. I watch the news of the Dutch news papers, you can ofcourse watch slashdot and Matt Raibles Spring live blog.

Another interesting application is google talk. You do not need to have skype or msn anymore, you can do everything the google way.

I was allready using google desktop. Now there is e beta of the second version desktop. This looks very promising. Find everything you have on your pc, including photo's, mails, documents. All from one little bar. You can also find the latest news, your favourites, everything you want. I am curious what google does with all this information. But if you have nothing to hide I guess you don't have any problems

Just for fun have a look at google earth, beware you need a very good internet connection to use it.

google cache rocks

Today I had a very positive experience with google cache. I am so glad I remembered its existence. I was working on this blog and needed some material from an older post. Then I did something very stupid, copied the new post over the old one, and lost everything. Hmm, no backup files or what so ever. Then I realised google had cached pages. So I did a google search, found the page I was looking for and luckily could restore the complete page, well oke, except for formatting issues.

So again, thank you google.

Wiki security

Today I have been working on the security module of the wiki. For now I have added security to the wiki. This is a cookbook module and it turned out that is was fairly easy to configure.

I really like this wiki software, custmizationg is easy and the documentation is thourough. I also did an upgrade of the wiki software, which worked liked a charme following the documentation.

Performance measure with ab.exe

While performance testing we came by the following tool for performance tuning apache.

When using apache you can do a quick performance test with a programm that can be found in the bin folder. This is calles ab.exe.
